The At Home Salad Bar: My Secret to Happy, Healthy Eating!

Being a busy mom and trying to find time to prepare healthy meals can be a bit of a juggling act during the week. But I have a secret! Each Sunday I create a DIY salad bar at home! Prepping my ingredients on Sunday saves time during busy weekdays. It’s a one-time effort that pays off throughout the week. Each week I add different ingredients to keep it from being repetitive.

My husband and I like different things in our salads, and with a salad bar, we can create our own perfect lunch. With a variety of fresh ingredients, it’s easy to encourage healthier eating habits. I always make sure to include a rainbow of vegetables and proteins.

How I Set Up Our Salad Bar
I personally always use romaine lettuce but you can use any type of greens you like!
For the veggies, I add colorful options such as cherry tomatoes, shredded carrots, and sliced red onions. For the protein, I will typically do hard-boiled eggs or homemade chicken tenders!

I like to make a bunch of the chicken tenders on Sunday to add in and my kids will have the tenders for lunch along with some fruit! We eat the tenders within 2-3 days and use boiled eggs the rest of the week. For a bit of crunch, I like to use homemade croutons or Olivia’s Croutons from the store. For dressing my two favorites are the House Salad Dressing from Health Nut and Primal Kitchen Italian dressing! So Good!

The container I use is perfect for big and small fridges plus it has dividers that are removable so you can add more or less items!

Be sure to rotate your ingredients to keep things interesting and to ensure you’re getting a wide range of nutrients each week!

Our DIY salad bar has become a staple in our home, transforming lunch time from a chore into an enjoyable experience. It’s an approach that not only simplifies my life as a mom but also nurtures a love for healthy eating in our home! Give it a try and see how it transforms your family’s lunch time!

Let me know how it goes—I’d love to hear about your family’s favorite salad creations!
